BMW Names Dan Creed Marketing Executive

The American division of German manufacturer BMW announced today the successor of Jack Pitney, the 47-year old vice president of Marketing who was killed in August in a tractor accident. The name of the new executive is Dan Creed, currently vice president of after sales for BMW of North America.

Creed will be in charge with the brand’s product planning, strategy and marketing in the United States. Creed is no stranger to marketing as he joined the carmaker in 1996 as training manager for marketing and sales at BMW Canada.

“Dan Creed is clearly the right person to step into the role because he has serious marketing, sales and after sales experience and has worked closely with our retail network in developing effective relationships,” said Jim O’Donnell, president of BMW of North America.

In addition to the naming of the executive in charge with the marketing strategy, BMW also announced it has appointed Russ Lucas to the position of vice president for the eastern region, a position which the same Pitney would have been appointed to on September 1.

“Russ has shown impressive results in the field and in his previous regional experience,” O’Donnell added. “He brings the fresh ideas and creativity needed to lead sales in our largest region.”

The accident which took place in August and killed the BMW executive was caused, according to the sheriff’s department in Greene County, by Pitney's attempt to pull a tree stump from the ground with his tractor. The vehicle couldn't handle the task and flipped with the BMW executive still inside.
