Right now, BMW is filled with sporting spirit. As an official sponsor of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, they haven’t missed a beat in bottling that competitive spirit and selling it on to their customers in commercials.
The new 3-Series is already synonymous with BMW in the US, but there is a new crossover making to this market for the very first time which could use that added marketing boost. So, the launch of the 2013 X1 has been moved up in order to coincide with the Olympic Games.

“To enhance traffic and support consumer demand generated by the ad, we are pulling forward the September launch date and releasing these vehicles immediately. There’s no better way to capture the sales excitement by having a vehicle on-hand,” a bulletin from BMW USA reads, according to Bimmerpost.com.

The US market will see a total of three variants, offered in combination with only two engine options. The base X1 2.0-liter turbo is sold either as a the RWD sDrive28i for $31,545, or as the all-wheel drive X1 xDrive28i for $33,245. For those willing to burn a bit more petrol, there’s the range topping X1 xDrive35i, which sells for a mighty $39,345.

Under the hood of the X1 28i, you’ll find a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, while the 35i is fitted with a bigger 3.0-liter with twin turbos and is good for 300 hp. Both units come mated to an automatic gearbox and feature start-stop technology, and brake energy regeneration.
