BMW Motorrad seems to make firm steps to put the world financial crisis in the “past adventures” chapter of its history, as the German manufacturer announces excellent sales for the first month of 2015. Even in the absence of the most anticipated 2015 models, BMW fares very well early into this year. The January sales are up 15.2% from the figures recorded in the same month of the previous year.
Zee Germans moved 6,236 motorcycles and maxi scooters the past month, which is a noticeable increase over the 5,438 units sold by the end of January 2014. This also makes January 2015 the best debut month in BMW’s 9-decade history. The news is significant because of more aspects which concern the company's bike business.

First of all, 2014 has been the fourth record year in a row for the Bavarian motorcycle maker, and this tells us that both the business recipe and the way BMW seems to meet the demands of the customers are spot on. Of course, 2014 has been shadowed by certain technical problems, with the stop riding recall for the new R1200RT sport-touring machines being arguably the most important drawback. Certain voices among customers say that BMW’s reliability is no longer what it used to be back in the day, but frankly, all we can see so far is sales rising each year, so there must be something these guys are doing right, isn’t it?

And the new bikes are yet to come…

The second factor which hints us on even better prospects for 2015 is the fact the BMW’s new models are yet to make it to the dealerships. And we know how customers tend to flock in and spend big time when new bikes make a first appearance. BMW still has a whole lot of new models which await their OK for being shipped to the dealers worldwide, and their impact on the 2015 sales is going to be major.

Of course, it’s hard to tell if the almighty R1200GS will be dethroned by the new riding star, the 2015 BMW S1000XR, but we can vouch this will not happen this year. The flagship GS in all its shapes and versions has too many billions of miles behind and has an almost cult following for being easily overthrown from its dominant position. Still, the S1000XR has an excellent starting point, with the number of those who are interested in the all-new sport-adventure segment being on the rise. And with the mojo the S1000RR engine brings to the game, things are surely looking bright.

As for the rest of the fleet, the new models which are yet expected to show up in the dealerships will surely make 2015 the 5th record year. We’re talking about the F800R, R1200R and R1200RS machines we saw at EICMA 2014, three models which will boost BMW’s business operations, even though maybe not to the extent the S1000XR is expected to.

Since the new machinery is supposed to arrive in showrooms in April, we might expect the Q2 sales to skyrocket. Watch this space to learn how things are going with BMW Motorrad’s new models.
