A yet unspecified number of helmets branded by BMW Motorrad will be taken off the market, official sources from the German manufacturer report. The helmet in question is the "BMW Sport Helmet," one of the many OEM-branded pieces of protective gear sold through the dealerships.
The Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer doesn't offer too many details as to what stood behind the decision to pull this model from the market. The only information provided relates to the lack of compliance with an European safety standard.
Namely, certain BMW Sport Helmets fail to meet the requirements of the UNECE R 22.05 European standard, hence the decision to remove them from sale.
Still, this entire non-compliance thing could very well be only a "technicality," and BMW wanted to play 100% safe. The same BMW Motorrad sources mention that "there is no safety risk to users of the helmet."
The only helmets affected by this recall have the ID 059241/P on a label attached to the liner. No other helmets, in the Sport or System, Race, or Enduro ranges are affected, BMW says.
The recall and replacement are not affected by the age of the helmet, BMW adds. The German manufacturer also reports that no helmets were sold in the US. We'd rather call this recall a "lucky strike" for the BMW customers, who get the chance to renew their helmets for free.

Owners' helmets will be replaced
BMW says that the customers should take their helmets to the nearest dealership and hand them in.
