Schmitz Mittz Are the Toughest Gloves Around

Hand injuries are probably amongst the most common type of motorcycle-related injuries, probably because most humans will try to break their fall and use their hands to make meeting the asphalt a less brutal experience.

The need to use gloves when riding a motorcycle is, however, not regulated by laws, and is left to each rider's preferences and concern for their own safety. Some gloves tap deep into the fashion territory, while others have a more functional approach. While the Schmitz Mittz definitely have nothing fancy about them, these are probably the toughest hand protection money can buy.

Penetration resistance, tear resistance, cut resistance, abrasion resistance, fire resistance and... waterproof

If all of the above seems like an impossible combination, then there's the Schmitz Mittz range of products to show you how much hand protection has progressed.

These gloves have Armortex Kevlar outer layer, slash proof inner liner, carbon fiber, knuckle guard, and wrist, thumb, and finger protectors. They are also very strong while being flexible thanks to 600-1000 D Cordura construction and can be ordered with a Hipora waterproof barrier and wicking layer.

And if touching hot objects can seriously damage your fancy gloves, you should know that the Schmitz Mittz will keep your hands safe even after being directly exposed to 1,370C (2,500 F) flames for up to 20 seconds. That is a gas burner targeting your palm. All stitches are made with Kevlar and the gloves come with multiple reinforcement zones for extra reliability.

Now, you might think that these magic gloves will cost you a leg and an arm. The Schmitz Mittz will set you back only $100 (€90) or so. Developed by firefighter and extrication specialist Randy Schmitz, they have primarily been engineered for first responder protection. Oh, and they also have a winter version!
