We've already seen our fair share of first drives and reviews of the new F06 M6 Gran Coupe, mostly thanks to the event BMW organized last month, but this time we're looking at what autoblog had to say about it.
First off, they start with the bad side which, in this case, is the exterior of the car. The guys from autoblog are definitely not impressed by the new M trims and the front headlights. Another downside according to them is the price tag, but that is somehow justified as its main rivals are priced roughly the same.
That's about it. Yeah, those are the only 2 things they found peculiar about this car. Once inside the M6 GC things change. The interior is exquisite, with an overall premium-luxurious (if that's even a proper term. If it's not, it has to be invented for this car) feel, it will win you over immediately.
The engine roars beautifully under the bonnet and the 7-speed automatic gearbox will make you forget about pressing the clutch and changing gears. Hooked up with the Variable Damper Control unit, the feel of the 4-door coupe will soon make you forget you're behind the wheel of a 2 tone car.
Over the autobahn there's a lot to enjoy about this car. The 4.1 second 0-60 time seems underestimated and you feel a lot faster when placed behind the Gran Coupe's wheel. The 190 mph (305 km/h) top speed is reached easily, provided you have the MDM package and enough open road ahead of you.
The hydraulic steering is a nice surprise and allows you to be in control every moment of the ride, which is a definite plus. Furthermore, all the dynamic functions like the traction control, steering setup, shift mapping and suspension tuning are at hand, next to the gearshift lever, a detail that makes more sense than including all these buttons in the infotainment software.
So, even though at first the guys from autoblog were reticent towards the new M6 Gran Coupe, after just half a day with it, they started to change their minds. It will really hold its own against the RS7 and CLS63 AMG in the 4-door sport coupes and the battle in this segment seems to heat up.
