The saga of unbelievable drag races involving BMWs continues and today, we’re bringing you yet another unpredictable result. This time, the culprits are a BMW F10 M5 and a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Estate, both of them stock. Care to guess who won?
Well, if you’d be making your assumption based on the numbers written down on paper, you’d be on the losing side. That’s because at first, the odds seem to point to the Merc, hands down. Just take a look at the 0-62 times and you’ll know what we mean, the AMG 63 S being more than half a second faster than the BMW thanks to its 4Matic all-wheel-drive setup.

But let’s take an even closer look. The three-pointed star car has a 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine under the bonnet, making 585 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque in the S guise. That’s all hooked-up to a 7-speed AMG Speedshift MCT gearbox that’s extremely fast as well. Sure, the weight for the Estate version is bigger than the one the Sedan M5 shows, but only by around 100 kg (220 lbs).

On the other hand, the M5 has a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo under the bonnet. It makes 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque, numbers that aren’t even close to those of the Merc. It’s also rear-wheel drive and the standing start won’t help it at all.

So, once again, the odds look desperately against the Bimmer but what it shows on the track is downright incredible. Of course, the blame lies with the drivers but the difference between them is still impressive. Check out the race and let us know what you think of it.
