BMW M5 Slips and Crashes Into a Bus Stop

With great power comes great responsibility. Especially if that power goes to the rear wheels and you’re driving on wet roads! That’s something this poor driver apparently didn’t know and ended up ‘hugging’ a bus stop bench.
The video below shows us a BMW F10 M5 riding behind a car that, fortunately for us, has a rear-mounted camera filming. As you’re about to see, the driver pressed the gas pedal a bit too much after turning left at a stop sign and lost control of his car.

In the case of the M5, such behavior is to be expected. The car has a 4.4-liter V8 under the bonnet force fed by two turbochargers that squeeze 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque out of it. The torque alone won’t throw you out of bounds if you’re careful about it.

However, it’s the way it’s being delivered that often leads to nodding heads and damages. Due to the turbocharged character of the plant, all the 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque are available down low and they hit really hard when the turbos are spooled up.

That’s exactly what happened here. We’re also suspecting someone meddled with the DSC and either turned it off completely or partially, as part of the Sport+ mode.

Fortunately for the driver, nobody was sitting on that bus stop bench so we’re assuming the damages were only material and nobody got hurt. The speed wasn’t all that high either and we assume the driver is also ok. Even so, it’s a notable lesson to learn from.
