Akrapovic teased us a while ago with the first photos of a BMW M4 fitted with one of their exhaust systems. The internet went mad at that time and started asking obvious questions like: when is it coming out and how does it sound like?
Well, we had to wait a while but the answer to the last question is finally here. Ladies and gentlemen, allow us to introduce the sound of the new BMW F82 M4 fitted with a proper exhaust!
The videos below show the car specially prepared by the Slovenian company doing some a pretty nice drift around a wet track, during the BMW M Power Tour. Sure, the drift is interesting and all but what we’re really after here, is the sound. And we have to admit, this is how the M4 should sound with the stock exhaust.
Instead of the high-pitched sound that resembles a lawnmower when idling that the new Coupe comes with as standard, this version shows character and a meaner, deeper growl that is simply irresistible.
And with an inline 6-cylinder architecture, it’s pretty hard to hate on this engine. BMW went back to its roots with it and, compared to its V8 rivals, the M4 and M3 got their special allure back, once again.
Downsizing wasn’t a problem, either for the Motorsport division. Fitting the S55 units with two Mitsubishi turbochargers and giving them some boost to play with, the numbers posted put the old V8 to shame: 431 HP and 500 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.
That’s what BMW is claiming, anyway. Separate measurements showed that the numbers the engine makes at the crank are even more impressive, going towards the 500 HP mark. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though, and hear this little monster out.
