Braking points on the track are there for a reason. And forgetting to touch the pedal when you reach one of these can lead to disaster. And few scenarios of the kind are worse than the one involving a concrete wall and the Nurburgring.
Sadly, this is precisely what happened last week during an RCN race, one that saw a BMW M240i Racing performing the dreaded concrete barrier kiss.
We've all seen tons of Ring accidents from outside, but, much to nobody's surprise, it all looks way more dramatic from behind the wheel. And this is precisely what you get to see in the brief piece of footage at the bottom of the page.
So, what happened? Well, according to the driver (Nurburgring settler Misha Charoudin), a state of fatigue caused him to become unaware of the braking neccesities.
"I wish I could blame coolant spill or contact with another car, but in reality I was overexhausted and simply blacked out and forgot to brake. Miraculously I only have 2 bruises from the HANS/harnesses and nothing else," Misha tells us.
The result is a brutal as you'd expect, with the M240i Racing flying past an E36 racer that had done the right stopping thing and hitting the wall, albeit not without the driver making futile late efforts to prevent this.
Fortunately, Misha walked away with minor issues, but we can't say the same thing about the Bavarian racecar, which is a total loss.
"Miraculously, I only have 2 bruises from the HANS/harnesses and nothing else. The car is totaled and a new chassis is ordered," the aficionado explains.
As Misha himself puts it, this is his worst Green Hell accident to date. So here's to hoping this crash serves as an example to all track lovers out there.
