You probably never heard of GKD Legend. We didn’t either until today and that probably has a thing or two to do with the fact that the car-making business is now up for sale on eBay. That’s right, for just £29,950 ($48,376 or €38,362) you can actually buy the company that used to make BMW E36 and E46 inspired kit cars.
But wait, their cars look like Caterhams, don’t they? Well, they do but just like Caterham’s products, they are kit cars. That means that you can basically configure them in a variety of ways and build them in your own garage.

The guys from GKD Legend used to sell kit cars that used BMW’s own 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The fact that they weighed close to nothing and had even S54 units under the bonnet created unbelievably good cars. Just imagine a car that weights a little over 2,000 lbs (1 ton) and has the E46 M3 engine under the bonnet along with the rear differential and the gearbox. Sounds like fun, right?

Well, unfortunately, the guys are going out of business but, according to this ad on eBay you can have the complete Set Of Welding Jigs (Includes: chassis, wishbones, uprights and many more), the full set of GRP moulds (includes: nosecone, scuttle, front wing and left/right rear wing), wiring harness jigs, CAD Drawings (includes: chassis brackets, aluminum body panels, side screens and many more), parts list & suppliers, full production rights (includes use of the LEGEND name but not GKD) and the remaining stock that’s worth thousands according to them.

To us, it sounds like a sweet deal, especially considering the price tag but there could be hidden costs related to it and you have to consider the debt the company could be coming with. It’s still worth a look, though.
