BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling at least 2,475 motorcycles in order to solve a throttle problem.
The bikes are model year 2012 K1600GT and K1600GTL. An incorrect throttle valve control signal may be received by the engine control unit, limiting the engine speed and this could cause the engine to stall in certain conditions. It goes without saying that an engine which suddenly stalls is a major risk of crashing, especially with such heavy bikes.
BMW is notifying the customers and the recall campaign will be started in December 2013. Dealers will install an updated throttle control software free of charge.
If you're not sure whether your BMW is affected by the recall you should get in touch with BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected] and mention the recall campaign number 13V526000.
