While beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, many people would probably say that just about anything is better-looking than BMW's all-electric iX mid-size luxury crossover SUV. On the other hand, BMW tried to challenge that by bringing to life even more controversially-designed models.
The BMW iX first appeared in prototype form as Vision iNext at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, was revealed in production form in 2020, and started production during the summer of 2021. Since then, it has fallen out of favor with diehard fans as a subject of polemics because the Bavarian automaker churned out more controversial models like the X7 LCI, 7 Series, and i7, or the flagship BMW XM.

However, if you ask around, people would most likely prefer a Tesla Model Y to the BMW iX. Oh, wait, they did just that – last year, the American automaker sold more Model Y crossovers than ever and even crowned itself as the producer of the world's best-selling model. Toyota would surely like to dispute that after bundling the Corolla Cross sales with the regular Corolla deliveries to look good in the charts, that's a different story.

Anyway, back to the BMW iX, it is one of four all-electric models currently on sale in America, alongside the i4, i5, and i7, costing at least $87,250. That's a lot of greenbacks, especially since other mid-size offerings are a lot cheaper – Model Y starts from $45k, and even a three-row Kia EV9 goes out to play from just $55k. As such, it is no wonder that BMW's iX is not too popular with buyers, even though it's supposedly a lot more upscale than any of the aforementioned competitors and on par with the Mercedes EQE SUV – which still is cheaper at an MSRP starting from $78k.

No worries, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has found a solution to the predicament. More precisely, brought to our attention by the good folks over at Automotive Design Planet (aka automotivedesignplanet on social media), this independent creation by Ethan Park is his thesis project for the ArtCenter College of Design. However, this pixel master isn't just a student – he has prior experience working at Volkswagen DCC and is now a Creative Exterior Designer for GM Advanced Design in California.

As such, his creation isn't a regular fan-based project. Instead, the hypothetical BMW iX Zephyr imagines the mid-size EV crossover turned into a streamlined fastback CUV that has an innovative take on the company's corporate image without coming out with extreme solutions. This sporty crossover SUV is supposedly focused on "a young, eco-conscious couple with a passion for BMW" and is "reimagining what a luxury vehicle can be in the modern world." Cool or not?
