The fresh model will start at $45,425 (a $1,400 reduction as compared to the previous 528i) and will arrive in BMW dealerships in July.
It will use a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter in-line six cylinder powerplant that delivers 240 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque, using a lightweight, high strength, magnesium-aluminum construction that allows it to save 335 lbs. The figures represent a 10 and 30 percent, respectively, improvement over the previous generation engine of the 528i model. The carmaker offers its eight-speed automatic transmission as a standard feature for the powerplant.The 528i needs only needs 6.6 seconds to reach 60 mph.
The new model features the EfficientDynamics technologies (BMW offers these on all versions of the new 5 series), including Brake Energy Regeneration, Valvetronic, Electric Power Steering, and on-demand operation of engine accessory drives. In addition to that, the doors, hood, front fenders and suspension assemblies are made of aluminum.
The vehicle comes in standard with Parking Assistant, Top View cameras and a Stop & Go system. Its optional extras list includes Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, a Head-Up Display, and BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection.
