BMW i3 Wins Two Awards in One Day

The innovations and technology imbued in the BMW i3 pushed it to the top spot in this year’s “auto motor und sport” awards for the small cars segment. The first i car ever to be launched also received appraisal at a global scale, winning the “International Paul Piersch” award.
Of course, such important distinctions claimed the presence of top-level officials so Dr.-Ing. Norbert Reithofer, CEO of BMW AG, received the awards in the name of the company he’s leading.

The i3 won over 26 percent of the votes the readers of auto motor und sport casted for the small car category, defeating such cars like the Audi A1 (24.8 percent) and the Volkswagen Polo (20.7 percent) on the podium. Fourth and fifth place were claimed by the Ford Fiesta (3.7 percent) and Opel Corsa (3.2 percent).

For the International Paul Pietsch Award the i3 defeated Mercedes-Benz’s Magic Body Control technology and Stereo Camera. This distinction has been named after the founder of Motor Presse Stuttgard and has been handed out since 1989.
