BMW i3 Concept Coupe Driving Footage

BMW took the wraps of a second i3 concept at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show. This version is a production-intent coupe that will be sold across the world, including the US, next year.
The car promises a relaxed driving experience and up to 160 kilometers of range on a single charge. The technology offered by BMW, in the coupe at least, kind of proves that Nissan has gotten itself a head start. The updated version of their LEAF just launched in Japan has a lot more range and charges up faster than ever before, so BMW will have a real fight on its hands.

Where BMW always shines is in the engine department, and this EV will have up to 170 horsepower coming from the electric motor in the back, which drives the rear wheels via a single-speed gearbox.

Since this is much closer to next year’s production version, we have to say that the i3 looks much cooler than we thought while going down the road. Short overhangs, tight steering radius and decent visibility are all going to be attractive feature that attract customers.

The production i3 will make use of renewable materials in the car’s interior, which include leather, wood and wool. Let’s just hope it’s not more expensive than a 3-Series!
