The BMW Group managed to sell a total of 141,093 units in February, making the second month of this year the best ever in the company’s near 100 years of history.
Percentage wise, the sales grew only by 5.6% compared to the same month of last year, which used to hold the record until now. In definite numbers, 2014 allowed the Germans to sell 7,462 more cars compared to 2013.

On a year-to-date basis, the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce sales added up to a total of 273,999 so far, which translates into a 6.6 percent increase overall.

“February was another record month for us. The innovative new models coming out this year, such as the 2 Series Active Tourer and 4 Series Gran Coupé we just premiered to great reviews at the Geneva Motor Show, will give us the momentum to keep growing in 2014,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW.

BMW brand cars amounted to 124,889 vehicles from the total of 141,093 sold, a 8.6 percent increase over the 114,909 units sold last year, the best selling models being the 5 Series (55,758 units) and the X3 that grew by 15.5 percent to 23,980 units sold. On a year-to-date basis, sales rose by 8.9 percent, adding up to 242,017 cars delivered.

The overall sales increase is even more impressive taking into account that MINI brand vehicle sales went down in February by 13.8 percent, adding up to just 15,975 units compared to last year’s 18,527. However, this drop is completely understandable as the current MINI is about to be replaced with the new generation model.

China was the biggest buyer of BMW automobiles in Asia in February with a posted growth of 29.1 percent that added up to 30,281 deliveries followed by Japan with the same 29.1 percent increase, but at a much smaller scale, adding up to just 5,662 units while South Korea came in third with 3,435 units, an increase of 17.3 percent. Overall, BMW demand grew by 22.8 percent in Asia in February, adding up to 45,292 units. On a year-to-date basis, Asian sales went up 20.2 percent to 96,133 automobiles.

On the opposite side of the world, in the Americas, a total of 30,490 BMW Group vehicles were sold over the last month, a drop of 1.3 percent. On a year-to-date basis sales grew by exactly 1 percent to 56,467 units delivered.

Unfortunately, in Europe, the drop was a bit more consistent, going up to 1.5 percent, with 60,321 units sold in February compared to 61,253 cars sold during the same period of 2013. Overall, on a year-to-date basis, the sales remained stable with a slight decrease of 0.2 percent, adding up to 111,654 units compared to the 111,870 of last year.
