Ever since BMW launched the first ever X model, starting with the E53 X5 in 1999, the world was amazed by the fact that the Bavarians were really going into SUV territory.
In pure Bimmer fashion, the E53 worked magic and convinced everyone that a Sports Activity Vehicle isn't just a fancy acronym for a car that is otherwise just an ordinary SUV.

Now, the third generation X5 was launched, following in the footsteps of the E70 model that set new benchmarks in the segment. The F15 was launched on the North American market in an event held at Vancouver, Canada, where most journalists that were present got to test drive it also.

Coming out initially with 3 model choices: the sDrive35i, xDrive35i and xDrive50i for the US market, the F15 X5 is planning to cater to everyone's needs. Worldwide another model variant will be available, the high-performance diesel, M50d.

At the event we told you about earlier, a couple of BMW officials took the time to explain, in less technical terms, what the big fuss about the new model and explain why they think it will be successful in the US.
