As the E70 X5 is being pulled out of production to make way for the new F15 model that already started production, we'll be seeing no more reviews of the majestic Sports Activity Vehicle.
Kristin Varela of cars.com however, took a BMW xDrive35i for a weekend to see what she'll be missing. Over the duration of her test drive some issues came up that nobody expected but that's why we do these tests, to see exactly what needs improvement and make cars even better.
From her point of view, the 3-liter engine under the bonnet was majestic. It delivered power smoothly and continuously, without hesitation. The gearbox was pretty good too but the gear selector might've posed some problems.
As she has a big family, the X5's third, extra row of seats proved to come in very handy. Sure, it takes up the boot compartment but when you want to carry your groceries, both the second and third row can be easily folded to allow for a lot of storage space.
Over the 3 days of testing, the X5 was extremely exciting for her husband that didn't mind the roughness of the car, needed to make the SAV sportive and embellished with BMW DNA. For her, on the other side, the car could've been a bit more comfortable at times.
Bottom line she said that "after a week of diverging opinions between my husband and me about the 2013 BMW X5 xDrive35i, I'm starting to think the characterization of BMWs as "man's cars" is true — at least in our family."
