Since the new F15 X5 is almost here, the guys from wanted to see how the first SUV like model from BMW evolved over the last years and took one for a quick spin to make sure.
The car they tested was a 2013 xDrive35d model, fitted with the all-familiar 3-liter diesel engine that produces 265 HP and 425 lb-ft (576 Nm) of torque. It came in a classic Alpine White exterior with an interesting Brown Leather interior.

As usual, the job of keeping the pesky diesel sound out of the cabin was done in the best possible way and, even though you do feel some trembling at first, once you drive the car out on the highway, the noise is almost completely blocked out. Actually, even the wind noise is barely noticeable at cruising speeds.

The interior is very spacious and can accommodate 5 adults easily. Driving this car around towns is nothing like what you'd expect. It has a short turning circle that allows you to perform U-turns with ease and fit the car into parking spaces perfectly.

The fuel consumption for this 2,355 kg (5,191 lb) monster achieved while testing was only 10.1 l/100 km (23 mpg) which is just shy of the official 9.4 l/100km (25 mpg). Considering the mammoth car reaches 100 km/h (62mph) in just 7.6 seconds, the fuel consumption is more than reasonable.

Driving dynamics will make you forget that you're driving such a big car, in the true BMW fashion. Going into corners will keep you balanced and you'll easily accelerate out of it with even more vengeance.

Bottom line, there are a lot of things that clearly show you how much the X5 evolved since its first release, back in 1999. The new interior, the Head-Up Display, the automatic transmission, fuel consumption and many other details will show you exactly how much this car was improved over the years.
