The 2013 DTM Season will be kicking off on May 5th at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, in Germany and will be featuring crews from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. BMW teams are currently preparing in Barcelona for what promises to be an exciting new year.
During the 4 days of testing at "Circuit de Catalunya", the BMW contestants will be undergoing joint tests. In the first day, Martin Tomczyk was the fastest, recording a lap time of 1:06.787 minutes.
However, lap times are not the only reason why the BMW teams are gathering in Barcelona this week. They are also testing two new innovations: Hankook's new option tires and the Drag Reduction System (DRS).
“The test day was okay and we were able to complete our planned programme. It was obviously exciting to use the new option tyres and DRS. As far as the tyres are concerned, we took a close look at how the new spec works over a longer distance. The DRS is obviously great fun for a racing driver. You can really feel how it is possible to shift up a gear earlier and reach a higher top speed on the straight. You have to get used to it at first and sound it out lap by lap,” said DTM champion Bruno Spengler.
