The BMW Z4 GT3 is not what you might expect at first. If you're thinking this is just a modified Z4 you're definitely wrong. The GT3 is not even road legal and you'll only be able to use it on a race track, like the ones in the video below.
The Monza Racetrack in Italy was the perfect training ground for two lucky Z4 GT3 owners. The pair of motorsport-addicted Bimmers were practicing during a private test day and were caught on camera by car spotter NM2255.
The E89 Z4 GT3 retains only the general shape of the Z4, everything else being changed. The engine is now a 4.4-liter V8 unit coming from an BMW M3 GTS that delivers 515 HP. Hooking that to the 1,190 kg (2,624 lb) total weight of the GT3, makes this little car extremely fast.
The M3 GTS DNA is still there in the Z4 GT3 and this was obvious since year one, when the Z4 won the 24-hour Dubai endurance race. The ones in the video look a lot like the GTE versions that were recently introduced in the ALMS and did a great job at Sebring this weekend.
