BMW Considering 1M Coupe CSL

The BMW 1M Coupe is so much more than just an entry-level M vehicle! This is true in the sense that, through its size and weight, the vehicle offers a special experience. However, it seems that BMW might want to make it true in another way, hinting that a CSL version of the car could be launched in the future.

According to Car Dealer Magazine (via bimmerfile) James Morrison, BMW product manager offered us hope for a lighter, more powerful version of the 1M Coupe speaking at an UK press launch. However, the executive pointed out that turning the vehicle into an even more focused machine would also make it more expensive, which could turn the package into an unattractive one.

“There is scope for a CSL version. This car has certainly generated a buzz. When we planned for this car we were cautious, but now there’s some hype surrounding the 1M so there’s clearly going to be some people looking at what we can do next,” the executive was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

“M is the pinnacle of engineering so if there’s a CSL proposition or something really different that we could consider then we would. If there’s something special and unique we can do with it then absolutely we would. However, losing weight from cars is really expensive and the 1M fits very well at the moment at £40k. Whether it’d work as well at £60k just because it’s a bit quicker and lighter then I don’t know,” he added.

Our say: Please don’t start comparing a potential 1M Coupe CSL with the M3 due to the possibly close prices, as the cars would offer totally different experiences.
