This July, BMW’s line-up will get some significant upgrades in all essential areas. The engine range, for example, will get a couple of new power plants, preparing for the impending EU6 emission standard that will become mandatory in Europe starting this fall.
The 1 Series, for example, will be available with the new 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine starting with July, making 136 HP and 220 Nm (136 lb-ft) of torque. This will be an intermediary model, not the entry-level choice though, as that position will be held by the 116i model still.

The 2 Series range will now use new B47 diesel plants on the other hand. The 218d Coupe and Cabriolet models will have a new 2-liter 4-cylinder engine under the bonnet, making 150 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. At the same time, the 225d versions will have a twin-turbo version of the same mill, making 224 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque that will be one of the best choices overall.

Going up in the range we stumble upon the 3 Series Gran Turismo that, even though it didn’t get a full facelift like its Sedan and Touring brothers, won’t be left out. The 318d and 320d versions will also be updated with 150 HP and 190 HP engines.

To top everything off, the only 2-liter engine on the 2015 X5 will also be improved, by quite a bigger margin. The B47 plant on the xDrive25d and sDrive25d models will now be making 231 HP instead of the old 218, adding a bit of grunt to the overall mix.

The introduction of these new plants will also bring a small drop in fuel consumption along with making all BMWs EU6 compliant.
