BMW 6 Seires Gran Tourer Rendering
Just yesterday we were telling you about the possibility of BMW launching yet another perplexing model that would really make sense: the BMW 6 Series Gran Tourer. It would be some sort of rival for the CLS Shooting Brake and the 5 Series Gran Turismo at the same time. Hear us out!
The war between BMW and Mercedes has been going almost since the two were founded and in recent years, it seems to be getting worse, with each company releasing a direct rival for one of their competitors’ cars, in case they are unrivaled in a new niche.

It happened with the 6 Series Gran Coupe that was launched to counter the CLS-Class and then with the Mercedes-Benz MLC that will be going head to head with BMW’s X6 and the examples can keep coming.

The thing is, BMW won’t let the CLS Shooting Brake take all the laurels in its segment and will make a move as soon as possible. That’s basically the main reason why we’re seeing the Gran Tourer 6er as a very possible future model.

Talk of such a car has been going around in the past as well. Actually, the rendering we’re looking at today was done by none other than Theophilus Chin back in ... get ready... December 2011, using the recently launched F13 Coupe 6er as a reference.

Old it may be but it’s still looking exactly as we pictured a Gran Tourer would look like if it was to come to life. Theophilus’ work is flawless, including a taller greenhouse towards the back and a more reclined tailgate, while staying true to the 6 Series taillights at the same time. The frameless doors were also kept in place.

As far as the engines and optional features would go, we’d be inclined to think that the Gran Coupe could offer all the answers. The same powertrain mix-ups would be used with xDrive offerings on the table as well and powerful engines under the bonnet, that have at least 3 liters in displacement. According to the original source, this model would be released in 2017 as a 2018 model.
