In a recent interview for Ward’s Auto, BMW’s Development Boss, Herbert Diess claimed that the new 2 Series Coupe will get a Convertible brother in the following months, mass production starting towards the end of 2014.
Right now, the BMW Group is busy launching the Coupe 2er but they are also preparing the market for the 1 Series Convertible replacement that will “likely” be also a soft top, leaving room for speculation with claims that the management board didn’t yet reach a decision.
Engines will most likely be similar to the ones on the Coupe but it will be interesting to see if there will be a M235i version available, as the 1 Series Convertible didn’t have one. My bet is that there will be a standard 235i model with no M Performance variant on the table. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Prices should also be close to the ones of the car it replaces, starting at a bit more than $37,200.
