BMW recently announced a recall for the 1-Series Coupe-based ActiveE electric model due a drivetrain assembly issue that can lead to a disruption in the power delivery. The affected vehicles, which total 360 units, may use a driveshaft housing that could have sealing issues due to improper assembly.
The lubricant inside the unit could leak on the part of the system that connects the electric motor to the transmission. This can cause the vehicle to lose power al of a sudden, which may lead to an accident.
BMW has already started notifying customers via phone and will check the vehicles that are still at the dealers. The cars will be inspected and fixed free of charge. If you own one of the affected vehicles, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236, or BMW at (800) 525-7417.
BMW recently announced the introduction of a comprehensive customer user study involves the ActiveE in Leipzig, Germany. 15 units of the vehicle will be used for drawing conclusions on long-distance commuting using electric vehicles.
