Bike Racers Miss Riderless Motorcycle by Inches

Funny thing about motorcycles is that the higher the speed, the more stable they are. Even though this might seem a bit off for new riders, they can prove this themselves by analyzing how easy it is to maintain balance on the bike when they are doing, let's say, 40 mph (64 km/h), when compared to trying to keep upright when barely moving.
This phenomenon is strictly related to the very dynamic of these machines and the gyroscopic effect of the wheels. That's why we sometimes get to see a bike whose ride fell off still riding forwards in a straight line, until the speed decreases, starts circling and finally flips.

However, when this thing happens on a racing circuit it may pose a huge threat to the other riders, just as we can see in this video. Luckily, the rest of the riders managed to brake and avoid hitting it... especially as the bike corners on its own and crosses the asphalt strip once more.
