Ben Spies Aims High in the 2010 MotoGP

North American racer Ben Spies has big plans for the upcoming season of the MotoGP championship, due to start this weekend, in Qatar. The reigning World Superbike Champion has posted some impressive laps times during the off-season test campaign this winter, and is confident that he can manage an impressive debut year in the MotoGP in 2010.

However, while his teammate Colin Edwards revealed that his team is going for race wins this season – considering the great pace they've had in the testing period – Spies admitted that his first challenge for the 2010 campaign will be to learn the new circuits and fit into the Tech 3 faily.

I think we're in a good position to keep learning and keep moving up. We also have some big new challenges ahead of us going to some new tracks and not knowing, and just the combination of riding with these guys,” said Spies, according to crash.net.

Additionally, this will be the first season in which Tech 3 Yamaha will have an all-American lineup in the MotoGP, and Spies admitted that Edwards – also a former World Superbike Champion – has helped him a lot in getting up to speed throughout the winter.

Colin's been a super-big help. I think this year is going to go really well. We're definitely competitors. We want to beat each other. We want to beat everybody out there, but I think we both understand that racing against the guys we're racing against, we can work with each other a little bit to make the bike a little bit better,” added Spies.

The Tennessee born rider already made 4 MotoGP appearances in the past, managing to score points on every occasion. In 2008, he contested in both US rounds of the MotoGP calendar for Suzuki as a wild-card– recording an 8th and 6th place finish at Laguna Seca and Indianapolis respectively – after replacing Loris Capirossi in the British GP (also for Suzuki).

Last year, he scored a 7th place at Valencia, competing for Tech 3 Yamaha, which got him a full-time ride with the team for the 2010 season.
