Baguette Announces "Almost Certain" Job with Sauber F1

Sauber F1 Team is regarded as Bertrand Baguette's best chance to making his Formula One debut in 2010. Although the team has recently announced Kamui Kobayashi as one of their drivers for the upcoming season, the Belgian racer believes Peter Sauber will go for a rookie vs. rookie lineup next year, rather than look for an experienced driver to partner the Japanese.

Talking to Het Niewsblad newspaper earlier this week, Baguette was pretty confident that one of the two remaining spots within the Sauber F1 outfit will be offered to him – either the second race drive or the reserve/test role.

The decision will fall in the coming week. The fact that Kobayashi has signed does not mean that I cannot as well. Half of the race cockpits (at Sauber) are still free. And if that should not come out, then I will almost certainly be the third driver,” the 23-year old driver told the aforementioned publication.

However, Baguette's view is not shared by Swiss newspaper Blick, whose reporters suggested that Sauber would likely prefer to sign racers like Pedro de la Rosa or Giancarlo Fisichella – even Nick Heidfeld, if he doesn't get an offer from Mercedes GP – who bring more experience to the table when developing the 2010 car throughout the season.

Peter Sauber has not announced a certain date to confirm his complete lineup for the 2010 season, but it's expected that this will happen sometimes during the course of January. Like Mercedes GP, US F1 and Campos Grand Prix, it's unlikely that the announcement will come by Christmas time.
