Renault Will Test WSR Champion Bertrand Baguette at Jerez

Like Toro Rosso, Renault also seems to be on the lookout for a driver in 2010. However, despite announcing that they will test a bunch of teenagers later next month, it's likely that the rookie tests will only give us a few clues on the team's future reserve drivers, rather than Robert Kubica's future teammate in the 2010 Formula One championship.

While the team is still looking for a good fit for the Polish driver, they recently confirmed that one of their rising stars, Formula Renault 3.5 series champion Bertrand Baguette, will conduct his first ever F1 test at the Jerez circuit on December 1.

Before taking the wheel of the Renault R29 next month, Baguette will first get to visit the Enstone headquarters and learn a few things about the team's testing programme this winter. According to the FIA rule book, only drivers who have competed in less than 3 GP in their entire career are eligible for the rookie test days.

It's all my childhood dreams come true and, at the same time, it's every racing driver's ultimate goal. It's thanks to Renault that I was able to get into single-seater racing, by winning a programme set up by Renault in Belgium to discover up-and-coming young talent from karting,” said an enthused Baguette when hearing about the news.

Since then, I've driven every Renault single-seater, from Formula Renault 1.6 to Formula Renault 3.5 via Formula Renault 2.0. Driving the Renault F1 R29 kind of completes the set as far as I'm concerned! The first few laps in Formula 1 must be really unbelievable, with a lighter, more powerful car that has just phenomenal cornering speeds,” added the Belgian driver.

Baguette completed the last 3 years of the WSR series, and won the championship in 2009 on a Draco-prepared Renault. This was the first time the Belgian 23-year old won a championship in his single-seater career.
