B&M Waste Services Continues to Expand Volvo Truck Fleet

After the purchase of their most recent Volvo truck in October last year, independent waste management company B&M Waste Services are continuing to expand their Volvo fleet with the purchase of a new FM. The new FM-370 8x2 rear steer, rear-end-loader comes complete with I-Shift automated gearbox, Driving Package and Day Cab, Euro-5 SCR Technology and a large 30 cubic meter Farid RCV body mounted onto the Volvo chassis.

The waste management company chose an 8x2 rear-steer chassis as opposed to the generally industry standard 6x2, as it is comparable to the existing rear-steer REL’s, which have been in operation and proven within their fleet for some 6 years.

“The FM 8x2 is ideal for the kind of inner-city work we do. The turning circle and manoeuvrability are excellent; it can hold more waste and the payload achieved is just under 60% more than a standard 6x2. This results in more waste collected per vehicle, per route, which in turn reduces our clients’ carbon footprint even further,”
said Paul Jarmay, B&M Waste Services Fleet engineer.

In addition, B&M have previously purchased several Used Volvos to bolster their fleet, of which, along with the FM-370, will be based at the company’s 2.5 acre depot in Trafford Park, Manchester. “With heavy investment and growth in the Manchester area, it has become vital to increase the depots fleet,” Jarmay explains.

The trucks were purchased on a seven-year service and maintenance agreement from nearby Thomas Hardie Commercials, also based in Trafford Park.
