For quite some time now a car is no longer just a means of transport. Thanks to the incredible advancements in other fields, cars are now offices on wheels, can double as entertainment centers and keep drivers and passengers connected with all that takes place in the outside world.
Incredible as they may already be, the infotainment technologies included in cars keep evolving, and their evolution is oftentimes previewed at specialized shows all over the world. One of the most important such events is, of course, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which takes place at the beginning of January.
Among the first to announce what they’ll be bringing at next year’s show are the Germans from Audi, who said on Wednesday they will show “a completely new on-the-road entertainment format and a special movie theater experience,” nicely wrapped in an unspecified luxury sedan.
In line with mother company Volkswagen’s idea of cars of the future, the special Audi vehicle will be connected and partially autonomous, allowing occupants to fully enjoy the revolutionary entertainment while on the move.
When stationary, the car will use the so-called Immersive In-Car Entertainment system to show any content desired, from Hollywood blockbusters or content coming from streaming services.
The Germans have not fully detailed the systems they’ll be showing on the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center, but they did say they are powerful enough to transform the carrier vehicle into “an amusement park.”
Audi has constantly been attending CES since 2011. Unfortunately for the brand, and unlike some other German carmakers, the products displayed at CES have mostly remained concepts and are still to make it into production cars.
At this year’s event, the tech that stole the show in the auto segment was the Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, that has already made it into several production models.
