Audi US Sets New Sales Record in March

Audi cars seem to be selling by themselves across the Unites States, as the German carmaker did nothing in particular to boost sales for quite some time. However, Audi’s March US sales set a record for the month, with a 3.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Moreover, the carmaker also achieved the best Q1 sales since it has entered the North American market, with 2010 year-to-date sales up 34.8 percent.

"It's one thing to improve on sales from a year earlier when the U.S. economy was in a malaise," Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America, said in a release. "But it says something more profound about the Audi momentum story when the brand notches a record sales month in 2010 and a record sales quarter."

Sales of the Audi A5 Cabriolet in March reached their highest monthly level, while the Audi A5/S5 coupes sales rose 59.8% over March 2009 and an increase of 41.8% from the first three months of 2009.

Demand for the Audi A3 have also registered a boost, up 109.2% through the first three months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

The Audi Q5 crossover sales also increased 55.5% in March from a year earlier and 60.5% when compared to February 2010 sales. The Audi Q7 SUV were 19.4% higher than a year earlier, with the TDI clean diesel model making up 40.9% of the sales mix for the most recent month.

However, Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales fell 10.4% in February from a year earlier largely due to constricted inventories.
