German carmaker Audi is expecting a strong growth in the first quarter of this year when it comes to sales, especially following the encouraging results it posted in February. Last month, Audi sales were increased to 75,900 vehicles, a 19.9 percent increase as compared to the period of the previous year.
"We are on course for a strong first quarter and that is mainly thanks to our leading position in China and western Europe," Audi sales chief Peter Schwarzenbauer said in a statement today, according to a Reuters report.
Sales in the United States adopted an increasing trend as well, with official figures pointing to a 33.6 percent growth as compared to February 2009. Audi sold 6,216 vehicles, as compared to 4.653 in 2009. Over the first two months of 2010, the automaker’s sales went up 35.7% to 12,726 from 9,375 vehicles sold over the same period in 2009.
"Audi continues to build on the positive U.S. sales momentum gathered throughout 2009," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "We are confident that the months ahead will continue to validate how the Audi brand captured the imagination of American premium car consumers."
In China, which recently became Audi's largest market, the German brand posted an increase of 61.7 points last month, delivering a total of 15,108 vehicles.
On a separate front, Audi hopes the recently-revealed A1 will contribute to the brand's global increase, together with the new green vehicles prepared for debut for the next few years. Furthermore, Audi is working on the A2 revival, but the new model is likely to break cover in around 4 years.
