German manufacturer Audi today announced their lineup for the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show and, even if their presence at the event may be considered less impressive than what rival BMW has prepared, three new models in the Audi range will make their first appearance at the show.
First and foremost, Audi will present the Audi S5 Sportback. The "pinnacle of the new Sportback model line", the S5 Sportback will be offered, after the event, with a choice of only one engine, a 3.0l V6 turbocharged unit, developing 333 hp and 440 Nm of torque in between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm. This makes the S5 Sportback leap from naught to sixty in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph) – electronically limited. The engine is paired with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
The second newcomer to meet the public in Frankfurt is the A4 3.0l TDI, boasting the 3.0 TDI clean diesel engine found in the bigger Q7. The engine, propelling the car from naught to sixty in 6.2 seconds and reach the same electronically limited speed as the S5 Sportback (250 km/h or 155.34 mph) is Euro 6 standard compliant.
And last, but not least, Audi will bring to Frankfurt the A3 and A3 Sportback 1.2 TFSI. The star of the A3 is the 1.2l TFSI engine, which Audi designed "from scratch." The 89.5 kilograms (197.31 pounds) unit is capable to propel the A3 from naught to sixty in 11.3 seconds and tops at 190 km/h (118.06 mph). Sales of the new 1.2l A3 will begin in the first quarter of 2010 and will initially be offered with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission.
autoevolution will be attending the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
