Audi Reports Increased March Sales

As we got used to by now, the end of any month in a year is a good signal for automotive manufacturers to add up the numbers and see how their companies performed over the respective period. What we are not used to in these troubled times is those numbers going up.

Audi has posted its sales report for the third month of the year, totaling 6,433 units sold. This put the total import luxury vehicles market share to 7.77 percent, up 1.3 percent.

Model by model, the A5 registered a 41.6 percent increase over 2008, totaling 1,754 units sold. Sales of the Audi R8 kept pace with their March 2008 sales numbers and are up 18.6 percent year to date. Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales maintained the trend, recording 2,849 CPO units sold in March.

“The strong debut of the Q5 shows that consumers are recognizing the distinctive improvements this vehicle brings to the luxury crossover market. With the new success of the Q5 and the continued success of the A5, Audi has maintained its momentum and its share of the luxury car market. While the economic conditions remain challenging, Audi dealers surpassed our projections for the month,” Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America president said in a release.

Growing sales in the US and the potential of this market has made Audi take the role of sponsor for the New York Yankees at the end of the last month. In addition, the encouraging news of the March sales in the US comes at a time when Audi is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
