One day remaining until the beginning of the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show and the wraps have come off on the perhaps single remaining mystery of the event: the Audi surprise. Like is customary, the first official photos of the R8 e-Tron have been unofficially leaked onto the web prior to the Frankfurt presentation.
And, as you can see, it's just an R8. With an attitude, of course. An attitude which, unfortunately, cannot be substantiated with facts. Also like it's customary, no data regarding what may very well be the electric or hybrid version of the R8 have been made public.
Oblivious to the ongoing rumors saying Audi will/will not unveil an electric vehicle at the Frankfurt Show, the German manufacturer has set up a web site confirming the release. Alongside some interesting facts about electricity, a few things clear up the fog a bit.
"What's happened to electricity? It got dumbed down and domesticated. It's stuck inside toothbrushes and coffee makers. But on September 15 electricity, and all its force and power, will run free and completely untamed."
Will it be the R8 e-Tron? Probably. Whatever its name, Audi not making an alternative-drive sportscar would have put them behind rivals BMW and Mercedes, with their Vision EfficientDynamics and the upcoming Mercedes SLS AMG electric drive. So, a bit more pacience, and all will be revealed.
