Audi Customizing Club Chooses Winners

Audi's design contest, set up by the German carmaker to help inspire the future Audi show car, has concluded today with the announcement of the three concept winners. Drawn by Alexander Christ, Michael Horn, and Hubert Plaikner, the designs now await being transformed into reality by Audi engineers, prior to the official debut on 2010.

Alexander Christ's design is a interpretation of a front apron. His sketch features a single frame, which merges into a black bumper. According to Audi, "his design renders the entire front end emphatically horizontal and remarkably broad."

Michael Horn on the other hand took care of the outer panels of the Audi vehicles. By using a laser, the panels received "dazzling line drawings'" with a special brushing technique allowing for the creation of artistic patterns. These patterns change in accordance to the angle of the incident light.

The last of the three winners, Hubert Plaikner, chose to gave a hot-rod look to an Audi A3. By using polished-steel wheel rims, whitewall tires, a matt gray paint job, and pinstripes on the sides, the A3 received a even more sportier look.

The jury judging the designs submitted online by only a selected few was comprised of Michael Dick (Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG), Stefan Sielaff (Head of Audi Design), Heinz Hollerweger (Head of Total Vehicle Development), and Mattias Ekström (Audi DTM factory driver).

Audi will however take inspiration from all the 32 designs submitted, for the future show car. The three winners will be invited to witness the unveiling of the car next year.
