Audi, Best Selling Brand on AWD Premium Segment

Audi calls it quattro, and the world seems to love it. The all-wheel drive segment of the automotive market, a segment in continuous expansion, has been conquered in 2010 by Audi, who sold the vast majority of units that have been ordered in this segment: 437,792 vehicles.

According to the data provided by the German auto maker, 38 percent of all the models which it sold last year were equipped with the all-wheel drive system. The most successful model in 2010 that uses this technology was the Audi Q5: 155,025 people ordered one.

In all, at this moment, Audi has on the table a total of 150 models and variants that use the quattro system, the largest number of models that come with all-wheel drive in the premium segment. Of all the 150 models, the A4 quattro has been voted by readers of the Auto Bild Allrad as the 2011 All-wheel Drive Car of the Year.

“quattro is one of the Audi brand’s greatest success stories, and today we are writing what may well be its most exciting chapter,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board for Marketing and Sales.

“As we move down the road toward electric mobility, we see entirely new possibilities for quattro technology. The electric quattro of the future will be even more agile, safer and – above all – more efficient,” added the executive.

This year, the German auto maker plans to introduce at least two more models that use the four-wheel drive technology, the Q5 hybrid quattro and the Q3 quattro.
