Audi has recently launched its first biturbo diesel engine, with the unit being able to take the A6 sedan past the 62 mph mark in 5.1 seconds. Well, who would have thought that, just a few day later, the company would use this ‘buffer” to introduce revised diesel engines that can be found at the other end of the performance scale?
The carmaker has just introduced two new entry-level oil burners for the A5 Sportback and A5 Coupe. We are talking about two 2.0-liter TDIe units, delivering 136 hp and 163 hp, which have been tweaked to deliver superior efficiency to the 143 and 177 hp versions of the 2.0-liter TDI they’ll be offered alongside of.
The 136 hp engine will only be offered on the A5 Sportback, offering a 0 to 62 mph sprint of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 132 mph (212 km/h), while returning an efficiency of 4.4 liters per 100 km (64.2 UK mpg or 53.5 US mpg) and emitting 117 grams of CO2 per km.
As for the 163 hp version, this will be offered on both the Coupe and the Sportback. In the first, the unit comes with a 0 to 62 mph time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), while retuning the an efficiency of 4.4 l/100 km (64.2 UK mpg or 53.5 US mpg) and emitting 115 g/km CO2.
