Audi today announced they will be adding a 240 horsepower V6 TDI clean diesel to four more models, namely the A6, A7, A8 and Q5. The A8 would be the first to arrive in spring, followed by the other three in fall 2013.
We wondered why Audi didn’t take the opportunity to take the 2.0 TDI from the A3 Premium hatchback and put
it into the A4 as well. A representative for Audi USA told us today that A3 and A4 TDI versions are expected in the years to come but have not been officially approved yet.

Of course, one of the reasons could be that a better 2.0-liter TDI could be introduced with the new A3 and A3 sedan, which should make their debut next year. Also, Audi’s premium car range (A8, A7, A6, and Q7) has been a lot more successful, registering an increase of 34.1% in October, while the A4 only managed a 20.6% increase.

But of course, before giving the A4 an oil-burner, they might have to see where the market is heading after BMW launches its six diesels starting in 2013, which include a 3-Series Sedan diesel and 3-Series Sport Wagon diesel. Will Audi customers want the 240 hp V6 TDI, or will a hyper-miling 2.0 TDI be better? Personally, we’d like the European 177 PS 2.0 TDI version.
