Ever since 2011, Volkswagen has been rolling out Up! city cars from its factory in Slovakia at an impressive rate. Together with its brothers from Skoda and SEAT, the model has captured a significant chunk of the market.
Now, the Up! is by no means perfect. Built to be relatively affordable, it has body painted areas at the top of the doors, not the best plastics you've ever seen and styling borrowed from a brick. Still, it's clearly a more premium product than most of its direct rivals.
Now, Audi might want something to do with the little Up!, as a report from the Germans at Auto Bild suggests they are planning a Volkswagen Up! based electric car. For a while now, Audi has been dropping and restarting the A2 rebirth, which is a likely place the new EV will slot into the market.
Hungarian designer X-Tomi has created this Audi A3 rendering in the image of the little Up! The car has a large grille and imposing headlights, but the rest of it is pretty much the same as the VW. For any Audi to sell without compromising the company's identity and values, this car will have to be even better built than the Up! and fitted with more gadgets that people expect as standard in the premium class.
