Audi A1, the World's Most Sensible Car...

...at least, this is how readers of the Guter Rat consumer magazine and SUPERillu magazine see the smallest Audi ever. And the title is not without significance, given the fact that some four million readers voted the car.

The A1, selected the most sensible vehicle in its category, where it had to compete against eight other newly introduced vehicles in 2010 (this was the only big criteria for cars to enter the competition). According to those casting their votes, the A1 was the perfect choice because it offers “the safety and comfort of larger automobile classes in a space of less than four meters.”

Apparently, those voting on the car did not take into account the price of the model. Launched last year with quite a lot of fuss, the A1 failed to impress the car maker's top brass through the sales figures it brought.

The model starts at EUR15,800 in Germany, a price considered by most buyers to be a bit high. That apparently didn't sit very well with the consumers who, despite the safety and comfort of larger automobile classes, didn't flock to buy the model.

Once the consumers will figure the car out, says Audi, sales should really take off. The car maker plans to roll out 80,000 units of the model this year, hoping that the appeal of the small car will make its presence felt soon.

As for the recently received title of sensible car, the A1 will get the official recognition in the Meilenwerk facilities in Berlin later on Friday.
