Audi A1 Coming to Frankfurt After All?

There are still a lot of unclear things surrounding Audi A1's first public unveiling and unfortunately, there's still no official statement to put things straight a bit. A few weeks ago, we told you that A1 and A8 won't show up at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, despite the fact that they are both projected to enter the assembly lines in October. The reason for such a decision is still unknown but the German brand might change its mind up.

According to a report by autocar.co.uk, the A1 will after all make its first public showing in September at Frankfurt and will enter production, as initially scheduled, in October. It will be manufactured by Audi's plant in Brussels and the first units are likely to arrive on the streets in early 2010.

The A1 will be based on the A1 Sportback Concept showcased at the 2008 Paris Motor Show but will obviously be a little different, as some features would not make sense on a production model. According to Carscoop, it will rely on 4-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines, including 1.2- and 1.4-liter TSI powerplants.

The new Audi is also one of the models to be sold in the United States, as part of Audi's new market strategy to gain a larger market share in this particular market. But still, the price of the car scared dealerships a little bit as some voices are hinting to a 20,000 euro price tag.

“They said: ‘This is impossible. You cannot charge this much for small cars. In their mind, they were thinking $18,000, because that’s the conditioning our society still has,” Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen said earlier this year.
