Aston Martin just lifted the embargo on the DBX, its first-ever production SUV. We really didn't expect to see a drag race so soon, but here's the first one where it's going up against the most formidable opponent, a Lamborghini Urus.
The Urus has been available for a few years, but Lamborghini never saw the need to offer any flavors. As such, the outcome of this drag race is relevant for all the current owners, at least the ones who haven't modified their engines.

As you probably know already, the Urus has been winning all the drag races against SUVs and more. Under the angry-looking hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine rated at 641 hp at 6,000rpm and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque from 2,250rpm.

While Lamborghini's V8 is shared with Porsche and Audi, Aston Martin got its twin-turbo 4.0-liter from Mercedes-AMG. Officially, this has a rating of 542 hp at 6,500rpm and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque from 2,200rpm. The official performance numbers indicate this isn't going to be a close race, as the Urus hits 62mph about a second quicker.

But that's only on paper; as Tiff Needell so nicely explains in his narrated intro, anything can happen in the real world. The drag race is actually a nail-biter in the beginning, as the DBX jumps ahead to an early lead. But with so much more power, the Lamborghini manages to win the race by about half a car's length.

We really expected the Urus to stop the DBX into the ground. After all, Aston Martin's models rarely stand a chance against their Italian rivals. It seems all they really needed was an SUV platform and an AWD system. Later on, the DBX might get a more powerful V8 or even a twin-turbo V12. Wouldn't it be funny if it's somehow slower with the British-made engine?
