Doing a pillion wheelie might be quite a tricky business, especially if the rider of the bike is not the skilled stuntman he thinks he is. And like pretty much all the similar occasional stunts, such attempts usually end up with a more or less funny crash.
With knees and elbows already forfeit, it looks like some guys don't value their own heads too much either, hence the absence of helmets. Such stunts have ended badly more than once, so we might expect that the "Knievel couple" should have known better.
However, adding an incoming scooter on the road does not make the stunt easier. Au contraire, it causes wobbling and a crash, with the rider and bike suddenly veering right into the grassy ditch and the pillion suspended in mid-air for a split second. There's no telling whether he though he could fly, but one thing is certain: one can't fly forever. So it's back on the ground with a silly thud.
