Arab Drifting? No, This Is Arab Swing, with a Tractor

The footage below shows a man and a woman dressed in the area’s traditional clothing (a thawb and an abaya, respectively) that are simply... playing out in the desert. The couple is using a swing, but this is no ordinary piece of hardware, since are talking about a bit of an improvisation here.

The two are using an agricultural rig (we didn’t want to get into the tractor-escavator talk here) to spend some quality time out in the desert. As you can see in the footage, the piece of machinery was left to drive itself in reverse gear, so perhaps we could argue that this is an autonomous vehicle activity performed in the name of science.

Regardless, the two seems to be having a blast and we have to admit this is quite a stray from the usual motorized contraption activity in the area, namely using Toyotas and Nissans to fly from one dune to another.

While this kind of activity isn’t exactly safe, we have to admit we’d be glad to see such practices replace another type of driving that’s a bit too common in the Middle East, namely Hagwalah. You might know this by the name of “Arab Drifting” and we are happy to remind you that such irresponsible in-traffic sliding has become a criminal offense.
