App to Guide the Jaws of Life

It was only a matter of time before the advancements in technology we witness these days would have engulfed the world of emergency workers and first responders. And we are not talking here about some breakthrough imaging device or some revolutionary new 911 alert technology, but the already plain and simple smartphone app.

Some of you have seen, some experienced first hand and the rest have most certainly seen first responders in action; their apparent lack of care for the car, as they chop it away in the desperate attempt to reach the trapped human beings inside the wrecked vehicle.

That apparently random destruction of the vehicle, at times made harder by the safety systems and reinforcements in the car's body, will forever change because of an app meant to show the first responders the best, fastest and safest way to reach the people inside.

Called Extraction Zone, the app is packed with all the needed information to let the first responders know where critical systems of the car are, and prevent an accidental triggering of an airbag for instance or an unwanted fire.

The app, packed with details about several cars (the producer of the app, Bohemian Innovation, does not specify which cars are included, apart from the Honda Civic Hybrid), shows every essential system of the cars, like airbags, seatbelt pretensions, electric and propulsion systems and structural reinforcements, to allow fast and safe access into the car.

If you go and search for the app online, chances are you will not find it. By the looks of it, the app is still under development, so it'll probably take some time before you see a first responder tapping his iPhone before going ahead with his business.
