We live during strange times, and one of the most common recommendations from experts across the world is to avoid physical contact as much as possible.
In other words, this is the moment when contactless experiences are finally taking off, and systems like Apple Pay and Google Pay are recording a huge boom all over the planet.

Amtrack obviously doesn’t want to ignore this new trend, so the company this week announced the addition of these digital payment systems to its service. Basically, this allows customers to purchase tickets using nothing more than their smartphones and smartwatches.

Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are now supported payment methods for tickets, and Amtrack says the contactless experience is further enhanced with its dedicated app that provides push notifications for gate services and additional onboard capabilities.

To reduce crowds at departure boards, Amtrak app users can receive gate and track information via push notifications at select stations. The home screen also includes gate and track information for applicable reservations (when published). Customers can book, board, check train status and access information from the convenience and safety of a mobile device. Amtrak encourages boarding with eTickets, which conductors scan from the Amtrak app,” Amtrack says in a press release (also embedded below).

Very important to know is that the availability of Google Pay and Apple Pay depends on a series of factors, including the region and the bank. Google has recently expanded Google Pay to more countries, and Apple is also working on bringing Apple Pay to more customers.

With these services, credit and debit cards can be enrolled in dedicated apps on smartphones and then pay contactless with the press of a button. For Amtrack customers, the new integration allows them to complete payments right from within the app and no longer be required to provide their credit card information for tickets.

The new capabilities are available as of today in the latest version of the Amtrack app.
